11/14/08 Houston and Ireland: Building Sustainable Energy Partnerships (Co-sponsored with World Affairs Council)
To fuel its strong economy, Ireland is investing heavily in wind and other renewable energy sources. Ambassador Collins will discuss the many opportunities for collaboration between Houston and Ireland in this growing market for sustainable energy.

Michael Collins joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1974 after earning a BSc from Trinity College in Dublin. He served as Ireland’s ambassador to the Czech Republic, Ukraine and Saudi Arabia (a post which covered Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates). In 2001 Michael Collins was appointed Second Secretary General at the Department of the Taoiseach and in that capacity has had overall responsibility for international and European Union affairs, particularly the Northern Ireland peace process.

What: Keynote speech on cleantech/renewables by Ambassader Michael Collins and networking.

The event was very well received and about 100 people attended the event. The former FERC Chairman Mr. Pat Wood made the introduction of the Ambassader and the two sponsors.
 

10/07/08 3rd Cleantech/Renewables Networking Event
The German American Chamber of Commerce South Chapter (GACC South), the French American Chamber of Commerce Houston Chapter (FACC Houston), the Energy Association of the University of Houston (EAUH), the Swedish-American Chamber of Commerce of Texas (IACC-Texas), the Italy-American Chamber of Commerce of Texas (IACC-Texas), and the Renewable Energy Business Network South Chapter (REBN-South) are co-organizing a networking event on October 7th, 2008. We are very proud that our keynote speaker at this event will be Greg Wortham, Mayor of the City of Sweetwater and Executive Director of the West Texas Wind Energy Consortium.

What:  Cleantech/renewables networking.
Event fee: $10 for members of the partner organizations, $20 for non-members.

Greg gave a nice speech on wind in Texas. We also had a great turnout: ~ around 50 (a good representation of VC's, entrepreneurs, professionals from renewables sector and oil/gas sector, new grads/business students, attorneys, consultants, etc.). Some pictures are shown below.

We had a great start last night! Here I want to thank all who attended. We got participation from startups, a renewable/sustainability consulting business, a communication/design business, a high-profile executive search company, a renewable energy company, and manufacturers/vendors. It is exciting to have members coming from San Antonio!
 
As a result of the discussions last night, we decided to change our name to REBN-South.
